Welcome to Super Size Your Health!

Welcome to Super Size Your Health! The goal of this site is to provide you with tools and information to allow you to make informed decisions about enhancing the quality of your health.   Super Size Your Health will strive to empower you to be responsible for your own health and not rely on a pill or some gimmick to solve a medical problem.

There are many topics to explore, and terminology to define. For example: Allopathic medicine, western medicine, alternative medicine, complementary medicine, homeopathic, integrative medicine, natural medicine, Chinese medicine are just some examples and all need to be defined, compared and applied in the right situation. But before we go into those topics I want to give you some background about me.

My name is Bradley P. White R.Ph. and I have grown up in a family independent pharmacy. My father opened his first Medicine Shoppe franchise in Canton, Ohio 32 years ago this July. I followed in my fathers footsteps becoming a pharmacist and graduated from Purdue University School of Pharmacy in 1996. I have always been fascinated by medicine and science. I grew up working odd jobs in and around the pharmacy and through pharmacy school was driven by the fascination how you could take a little pill and it can help cure illness and disease.    supersizeyourhealth.com sunset

Fast forward 12 years to today and I have become very skeptical about our health care system in the United States. We Americans believe that our health care system is the best in the world and the best that money can buy. I am learning that as much as I want to believe that statement it is very difficult to prove it with hard statistics. Our managed care system in the USA does very little to promote and reward preventative health care. Health care professionals are trained to treat the symptom not the cause of the problem. As a pharmacist in the community setting, each day seems to be more and more of a battle to provide patients with the care and services they need. The battle grounds are on many fronts: third party insurance payers, restrictive drug formularies, preferred providers, prior authorizations, drug manufacturers that pound out direct to consumer marketing and self serving studies that don’t reveal all the facts, politics, technology, drug abuse, and other bureaucracies. It is not a simple process to serve patients in a pharmacy today. I get very little time to get to know you as a person and assist in improving your health. I end up spending my day balancing all the garbage listed above.

That is why I have started this blog, Super Size Your Health with hopes that it will grow to be a resource for you, the individual seeking quality information.

At Super Size Your Health I will work diligently to bring you fact based information that will help you improve your quality of life and health in a cost effective manner free of bias by a third party entity. I will give you my professional opinion, but it will not be compromised by sponsorships or financial influence.

So I have been having a reoccuring problem I know that there is no releif for this problem without spending and obsene amount of money, which I do not have. I have been experiencing a reoccuring yeast infection/candida. It has been ongoing for the past two and a half months. To make things even more difficult I am 8 weeks pregnant. So of course the medical remedy is to bandage the problem and not cure it. With me being pregnant I can’t even take those temporary medicines. I have read articles on changing your diet to a none sugar none carb diet. I have attempted it, but haven’t been able to structure myself to stick with it. I also don’t want any harm to come to my growing fetus. So you are the professional can you give me any insight on how to better my life and cure my problem without killing other areas of my body thru medication(keflex). Please I really need help. Thank you and I appreciate you taking the time to read my story.

    Nichole,
Given that you are still in your first trimester does pose some challenges. One of the things that you can try that should have no harm to your fetus is a probiotic. Probiotics have been used in the food industry for years, specifically yogurt. So they have a track record of safety. The great thing about probiotics is they promote and seed the growth of the good bacteria in the GI tract or vaginal cavity. They help maintain a balance. When you get a yeast infection, you have an overgrowth of the fungal bacteria that is present all the time. This could be due to a number of reasons, diet, antibiotics, exposure from another individual, etc.. I would recommend that you locate a retailer in your area that carries Florajen. Check out the manufacturers website http://www.florajen.com/vaginal.shtml for research with use in pregnancy. The benefits may surprise you!
