Going anywhere for the holidays this year? Amid the rush to get ready for Xmas, many people are also rushing to get ready for a trip to see their cherished friends or relatives. With large crowds, crazy weather, and hectic travel schedules to add to the stress of the season, it can be a quite a challenge to keep from picking up a cold or virus and coming down ill right when you get to Grandma’s house. So here are a few tips you can use to stay in optimum health while you are traveling so you can enjoy the best the holidays has to offer with your loved ones:

1: Maintain a positive attitude:

Let’s face it, the holidays are stressful enough but if we are feeling irritable and cranky, it makes them all the more stressful and this negative stress will take its toll on your body. If you can try to maintain more of an easygoing, light-hearted, positive attitude, this will reduce your stress level and leave you less likely to be susceptible to whatever cold or virus germs you may come across while en route. I know this can be easier said than done sometimes, but if we try just a little with one good thought, it will lead to another and another and soon it’ll snowball into many, and then you’ll notice that your outer experiences have changed and that’s because you were able to change your internal thoughts and energy.

2: Drink lot’s of water:

I know we hear this all the time, drink lot’s of water. Well, it’s true. For optimum health, the body needs lot’s of water and to be well hydrated. When the body is hydrated it is more likely to be able to ward of the entrances of any harmful cold and virus germs. Drinking lot’s of water also helps rid the body of its own internal toxins. It’s recommended that you drink 8 eight ounce glasses of water a day. Well okay, I’d probably float away, so I say just drink as much as you can and start there.

3: Take extra vitamins:

If you’re good at remembering to take your daily vitamin pill even when you’re busy and stressed, then that’s absolutely wonderful. However, for many of us, the busier and more stressed we are, the fewer vitamins we remember to take. The truth is, that’s when our bodies need them the most. Consider taking along with you natural, herbal vitamins and antioxidant supplement packets that you just add water to and drink. This is a great way to get your vitamins and boost your immunity as well as hydrate your body too while you are traveling. Or you can also get vitamin drinks with the water already in them, whichever you prefer and have room for in your bag. Both taste delicious and are quick and easy to use.

4: Drink green tea:

We hear all the time about the antioxidant benefits of green tea. Green tea, such as chamomile tea has many benefits but one of its top benefits is that it has a calming effect on the body. If you are feeling stressed and uneasy, just pop a bag of chamomile tea into a cup of hot water and you will soon notice your mind and body feeling more relaxed and calm. With a more relaxed mind and body you will more likely be able to keep your immune system strong and healthy.

5: Use hand-sanitizer:

Lastly, carry a small bottle of liquid gel hand sanitizer with you. It’s small, compact and fits well in your purse or jacket pocket. Before you eat, after you come out of a restroom or any public place for that matter, be sure and use hand sanitizer in addition to washing your hands. I know there is some speculation as to its real sanitizing benefits, however, the cleaner you can keep your hands, the better your chances of not picking up any germs and putting them literally straight into your body. I simply don’t go anywhere without a bottle, not matter what time of the year it is.
