It is important to always look great and feel great about oneself. While others find it easy to stick to an exercise regimen and to practice healthy living, there are others who just do not have the time or the energy to do so for a number of reasons. For those people who aim to look better my shedding unwanted weight but do not have the time or the patience to exercise, they have resorted to artificial means. One of the most common practice in doing plastic surgery to remove unwanted fat is liposuction. It has been around for many years now and has even advanced to newer methods such as laser lipolysis or laser liposuction.

Laser lipolysis is the practice of conducting liposuction with the use of laser encased in a cannula and inserted in the target area. The heat of the laser melts the fat and the liquefied fat is removed from the body through the cannula. Unlike the traditional liposuction the cannula used in laser lipolysis is smaller therefore a smaller incision is made on the target area. This in turn will result in smaller scarring and lesser swelling after the surgery. Patients who undergo laser lipolysis are put under local anesthesia and the procedure is often done on an outpatient basis.

The advantage of laser liposuction is that plastic surgeons can now be more precise and accuate in sculpting the body of their patients further especially for those hard to reach or those smaller areas. Whereas it is difficult to do this in the traditional laser liposuction, the size of the cannula used in laser lipo makes areas like the chin, the fat around the knees, the ankles, and the back of the arms more accessible. Some plastic surgeons opt to use lipolysis as a follow up treatment to their patients who have undergone the traditional form of liposuction to sculpt their bodies just the way they want it. A good candidate for this procedure is someone who is not obese or excessively overweight. Any individual who is of a fairly average weight but who wants to remove fat only in specific areas like their double chin and their love handles will respond effectively to laser lipolysis.

The cost of this procedure can vary from person to person. Some patients require more sessions than others do and some patients need to have a bigger surface area to be treated. Typically, an approximation for laser lipolysis is between $2000 to $4000. It will take about a few weeks to start to see improvements in the patient’s body and as long as four months to realize the true benefits of the procedure. Skin tightening will occur during this time as new collagen as laid down in the dermal layers of the skin. This effect would prove most useful for those patients who have been experiencing unsightly sagging of the skin. Some of the most common complications experienced by those who undergo laser lipo are infection, slight bruising, and burns to the skin. However, these are easily treatable and patients who have the surgery can return to their daily routines in a matter of days or a week.
