The juice diet plan has become a popular weight loss method in recent years. There have been many celebrities indicated as practitioners of this system, and it has been glorified as a way to shed pounds very quickly. There are a number of variations on this plan, but at its core, the fundamental idea is to replace most or all solid food intake with a juice drink for a regulated period of time. This may sound straightforward, but the elimination of solid food for a period of time is not something that every body can handle. This safety issue makes it necessary for one to do a good deal of research before embarking on this plan themselves. There are many resources available online and in books that go into great depth of detail concerning this fitness venture, and it is crucial that you find out as much as possible before deciding if this will work for you. Consult your doctor to determine if this is a good weight loss path for you. Among the various forms of this diet, there are two particular versions that have become the most popular.

The Juice Fast Diet:

In this variation, a number of raw fruits and vegetables creates the drink, and solid foods are completely eliminated for the duration of the diet. Those who practice this diet use these natural juices because they are considered to be good sources for antioxidants and minerals. Before trying this diet, it is important to note that many people who suffer chronic health conditions should not try it. People with eating disorders, low blood pressure, liver or kidney disease, anemia, a weak immune system, terminal illness, infection, diabetes, or low blood sugar should not pursue this extreme plan. Also women who are pregnant or nursing and those expecting surgery should refrain from the juice diet as well. It is also important to not that this method can alter the effects of prescription medication, so this is something to discuss with your physician. Once you have determined that this is a safe option for you, it is important to know that most of these diets do not exceed three days, and most only last one or two. In addition, it is recommended that you wait until the warmer months, preferably spring, to begin. Usually, the amount of juice recommended to consume is between 32 and 64 ounces daily, in addition to about six glasses of water. Watch out for common side effects such as dizziness, diarrhea, vomiting, kidney problems, or low blood pressure, and contact your doctor immediately if you feel you are in danger.

The Lemon Juice Diet:

There are many juice diet recipes, and while many require a multitude of leafy greens, fruits and veggies, this one has a simpler approach. Originally conceived of in 1941 by Stanley Burroughs, the lemon juice plan was originally intended to be a detox to clean out your system. This mixture is made from lemon juice, water, and sugar or cayenne pepper, and is taken at the start of each day of the diet. This diet differs from the regular juice variety in that it incorporates certain solid foods into the plan, making it slightly less extreme. However, when one does eat it is said that it is imperative that the person be calm and eat slowly so as not to shock the system. Many people have testified to the success of this plan, but as always your physician should be consulted first and many precautions should be taken to ensure healthy living.
