Anti-aging Foods

Most people would agree that two things in life that are inevitable are death and taxes.  While taxes are difficult to control, it is possible to control the aging process by consuming more anti-aging foods.  In fact for most people, eating anti-aging foods requires only slight changes in a normal healthy diet.

Like most items included in a healthy diet, anti-aging foods do not come from exotic sources. They are as close as your regular grocery store and only a little careful shopping can increase these the benefits of these foods to everyone. The most common anti-aging foods are found in the produce department, behind the meat counter and even in the wine department as strange as that may sound.

What are these foods that help to retard the aging process?  Well, most nutrition experts agree that dark leafy vegetables and many fruits are especially good at helping to retard aging process.  Vegetables like spinach are rich in vitamin K and studies have long applauded the benefits of blueberries for their very high anti-oxidant richness.

As we age, protein takes on a larger role as one of the key anti-aging foods.  Protein sources like lean beef, skinless chicken and turkey breast provide a lot of protein that people over forty need in larger numbers to combat muscle loss.  Low fat milk and yogurt are excellent sources of potassium and calcium that helps to keep blood pressure controlled.

Fish, especially fish that is rich in Omega 3 is a very powerful member of the anti-aging foods group. Some research shows that Omega 3 offers great anti-inflammation benefits and can actually work to improve memory and general emotional health among older people.  Tuna and Salmon are excellent sources of Omega 3, but even if fish doesn’t suit your taste, there are other sources of Omega 3.  Walnuts are an especially good source of this anti-inflammatory, anti-aging food.

Never overlook the whole grains as excellent anti-aging foods.  Cereal and bread made from whole grains are an excellent source of all of the vitamins and minerals necessary to a healthy anti-aging diet.

And as strange as it may seem, a little red wine provides a little extra anti-oxidant to any diet concentrated on anti-aging foods.  The reserveratrol in red wine is a powerful anti-oxidant and may help to slow cell death in the heart and center of the brain.

For those of us who are older, eating anti-aging foods can help to remain vital and alive, even if those anti-aging foods won’t keep away the tax collector.
