What can you do to help purge your body of impure chemicals or heavy metal toxicity?  Well you could go out and spend $30 to hundreds of dollars on fancy detoxification system, supplements, or programs.  There is another way that is virtually free, simple, and very effective -fasting. Think you could not skip a meal let alone fast for a few days? Consider that Native Americans would eat only one meal a day.  Our society has us conditioned to eat three meals a day.  That does not mean that you are required to do so.

Fasting is not about starving yourself.  Have you noticed that when you don’t feel well your appetite decreases?  It takes energy to eat, digest, and absorb food and nutrients.  Your body uses this energy to fight infection or boost the immune system to fight off a virus. On the same line it also takes energy to remove toxins that are stored in cells and to flush them out of the body.  Fasting can help your body do it’s own house cleaning.

How To Fast

The best time of year to fast is late spring or early summer. Two weeks before starting a fast eat a whole food diet.  Whole foods are fruits and vegetables that are fresh, non processed, and eaten raw preferably.  Avoid all fried foods, processed foods, refined sugar products.  Increase pure water consumption. Pure water is defined as distilled, or reverse osmosis water which is free of impurities.

Start the fasting process slowly, fast for one day.  Then return to a whole food diet.  Experiment with one day fasts and increase the time frame gradually as you become familiar with the process and what to expect.  It is worth noting that there are patient populations that should not fast.  Patients with diabetes are one example.   Make sure that you get a lot of rest.  Your body does most repair work while you are sleeping.

Exercise To Detox

During the fasting period participate in moderate levels of exercise only.  Examples of moderate exercise are walking, gardening, bowling, dancing, and swimming.  Exercise increases energy and improves blood and lymph circulation.  Stimulating blood circulation improves brain and nerve functions by delivering more nutrients to cells for metabolism.  Increased metabolism burns excess fat and increases the detoxification naturally.  Exercise also gives a boost to your immune function.

When To End Fasting

You should end your fast when hunger returns.  Break your fast gently, do not gorge yourself on a large meal.

So what do you think?  Are you up for the challenge?

I find you can go a mini-fast or pre-fast just by drinking a lot of water. I works for me, especially after a few weeks of drinking junk like pop. I lose weight, and I clean out the system.
