A group of Princeton Researchers has concluded a study that reveals high fructose corn syrup is responsible for more weight gain relative to the same amount of pure sugar consumed.

The study is based on feeding rats their standard rat chow and sweetening their water with either high fructose corn syrup or table sugar. The group that received the high fructose corn syrup gained 48% more weight!
Since 1970 when high fructose corn syrup has been used as a cost effective sweetener for food processing the obesity rate in the United States has skyrocketed. The sweetener is found in cookies, cakes, soft drinks, cereals, and condiments. The article notes the average American consumes 60 pounds per year of the sweetener!
My favorite thing is now you can see commercials on TV about how “Corn Sugar” is just as safe and healthy as regular sugar. This is the way that big industry responds to negative research about their product, by putting feel good ads on TV claiming their product is safe.
