Supersizeyourhealth tip #4 Eat More Vegetables
Have you heard the Bernie Mac commercial on the radio that talks about vegetables? The first time I heard it I thought it was a little weird. But then I checked the research. He reminds us that our United Sates Government recommends that we consume 9 servings of vegetables every day. Turns out that if you actually eat 9 servings of veggies a day you will reduce your risk for cardiovascular disease and certain types of cancer. Don’t say the US government never did any thing good for you! Fact is if you add more vegetables, and fruits for that matter, to your diet every day you are consuming a higher quality of food.
When you go to the grocery have conduct this experiment. Shop for your food on the outside perimeter of the store. What will that do you ask? Around the outside of the store is where you will find all the fresh produce. On the inside aisles of the store you will find the processed, canned, dehydrated, full of preservatives stuff. As food products undergo refining, processing, packaging, cooking, etc… they lose their inherent nutritive qualities. The best way to eat fruits and vegetables is fresh and raw. Raw veggies make a great afternoon snack and will give you a more sustained energy boost and satisfy hunger longer than a cookie or a candy bar.
Fruits and vegetables will have more vitamins, antioxidants, nutrients and fiber content. Your body will thank you!
