How to convert followers in to database subscription lists. Over time, your goal should include expanding your connections with your followers. This can include strategies to get followers to opt-in for downloads, eBooks, white papers, music, teleseminars, events, newsletters etc. However, don’t think too narrow. The ultimate goal is to find HOW your follower prefers to engage and WHAT medium they prefer. You can even go beyond collecting email address by creating opportunities for them to opt-in to your SMS text messages, getting IM screen names, physical addresses, and phone numbers. If you’ve invested time and quality in developing a relationship via Twitter, stronger connections via other modes should come natural.

For example: invite followers to download your eBook, music, video, or PDF (after an email or SMS opt-in) – but make sure you are offering something of value or extremely interesting. Create a contest that requires an opt-in. Do a tele-seminar on your topic of expertise and require people sign-up. Offer a free sample. Get creative! Also invite connections with followers within other social networks such as FaceBook, LinkedIn or a Ning community. The opportunities are boundless, but don’t think that Twitter is the whole enchilada – it’s only the Salsa.
