I really have tried to be a postitve person when it comes to Microsoft Vista. But I am near to crying uncle and going over to the Mac side. But I have so much money in my laptop. On Monday night for the third time in the last six months my awesome Dell XPS1330 has failed due to a Vista Crash.
I don’t mean just a repair Vista install type of crash, I mean “reset to factory settings crash”
Therefore – lose all data, customizations, installed programs, etc…. Waste hours in reinstalling software and configuration of settings.
Thank heavens for Carbonite, Foxmarks, and Foldershare.
Those programs are my backup plan. They are not a perfect solution, but they keep me from freaking out. Carbonite is a great service that allows you to backup your documents, videos, mp3 etc… online for a low fee. Foxmarks backs up all my bookmarks and tool bars. (I wish it backed up my plugins that I use in Mozilla). Foldershare is now a Microsoft product, it is now termed Windows Live Foldershare and it is cool becuase you can select folders across multiple computers and maintain idential files on multiple machines.
So that is my computer backup plan, which brings me to back to our title – What is your plan if YOU crash?
Do you have a plan if something happens to you?
What have you done to prepare your family if you are injured or heaven forbid killed in a car accident?
Have you:
- Purchased disability insurance
- Built an emergency fund in case you can’t work
- Prepared a will
- Set up a trust
- Designated a Power of Attorney for Personal and Medical matters
- Maintained your bills and files in a fashion that a family member can navigate your financial affairs
- Designated a guardian for your children
- Purchased enough life insurance to take care of your family
These are all questions that none of us want to think about or answer, it involves realizing that we are only human and we are vulnerable.
I hate vulnerable.
But I sleep better every night knowing that if something happens to me my wife and son are taken care of in every manner of situation above and then some.
Do yourself a favor, put some things down on paper with your attorney and you will make sure that things are in good order if the unfortunate happens.
Have you done this already? Leave a comment if you have any tips on the preparation process.
